Return to Your First Love

Bible Study Bite

Title: Return to Your First Love (Revelation 2:4–5)
Date: September 15, 2025
Category: Bible Study Bite
Theme: Repentance & Renewal

Scripture Focus:

“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.”
—Revelation 2:4–5 (NIV)

Study Breakdown:

 1. God Notices When We Drift

Jesus praised the Ephesian church for their hard work and perseverance, but He had one issue with them: they had drifted from intimacy.
They were still active—but not affectionate.
Still busy—but no longer burning.
Still doing ministry—but disconnected from their first love.

Question: Are you doing things for God while being distant from God?

 2. The First Love Is More Than a Feeling

It’s the hunger you had when you first got saved.
It’s the tears that came easy.
It’s the joy of reading the Word just to hear His voice.
It’s that quiet place where it was just you and God—no agenda, no performance.

Insight: God doesn’t just want your labor—He wants your love.

 3. God Calls Us to Repent and Return

Jesus didn’t cancel them—He called them back.
He said, “Repent and do the things you did at first.” That’s an invitation to rekindle the flame.

Application: Get back to the basics—worship, prayer, purity, obedience, and time alone with God.

Key Takeaway:
God doesn’t want a routine relationship—He wants real relationship. If you’ve lost your fire, He’s calling you back. Not to shame you, but to restore you.

Reflection Questions:

  • What did your “first love” season with God look like?

  • What habits, distractions, or people have pulled you away from that?

  • Are you ready to return?

Short Prayer:

Lord, I miss the fire.
Take me back to the place where I loved You with childlike wonder.
Strip away the routine and restore the relationship.
Help me repent, return, and remain in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
